An Italian Wedding in the Floating City of Venice

JE

My first time in Venice was to capture Chiara & Francesco’s Venetian wedding, and it didn’t disappoint…

As a destination wedding photographer, Italy is one of my favourite countries to visit – the light is so often soft and elegant, both the cities and countryside are incredibly picturesque, and the country is bursting with exceptional wedding venues (plus the food and wine aren’t bad either – I always love a glass of Gavi di Gavi in particular!). Venice is iconic as a city of romance, but maybe more somewhere you’d think of for engagement photographs rather than your wedding. However, it’s also a stunning city for your destination wedding.

However, the city is filled with stunning churches and beautiful venues where you can celebrate your wedding with superb food and seemingly unending bottles of prosecco.

Chiara & Francesco chose one the stunning churches for their ceremony – Basilica Santa Maria Gloriosa Dei Frari. The church is architecturally beautiful and as you’ll see from their photographs filled with a beautiful light. This is a theme for destination weddings in Europe – the light is of another quality.

My biggest recommendation if you’re planning a Venice wedding is to get out on the water. The canals are probably Venice’s best known feature and a private ride on one of the city’s many water taxis is the perfect way to explore for your couples portraits. Not only did we capture beautiful shots of Chiara & Francesco enjoying the city from the water, it also meant we could head across to one of Venice’s less well known islands for some more intimate portraits by the water.

We then returned to Palazzo Zeno where their family and friends were waiting to continue the celebrations with good food, lots of Prosecco and the best company.
